Featured Sessions

Mass Torts Made Perfect will give you a chance to learn about several high-profile cases from presenters and panelists who are involved in those cases. Case Works provides support for many of the types of cases that will be highlighted at this year’s conference.

April 12, 2023, 9:00 a.m. — Chemical Hair Relaxer Litigation Update

Earlier this year, plaintiffs moved to consolidate litigation against manufacturers of chemical hair relaxers to the Northern District of Illinois. Studies have shown that women who frequently use chemicals to straighten or relax their hair are twice as likely to develop uterine cancer. These products allegedly contain phthalates and other endocrine-disrupting chemicals that are linked to cancers, endometriosis, and other serious health problems.

April 12, 2023, 9:45 a.m. — Camp Lejeune Contaminated Water Litigation Update

Last August, President Biden signed the Camp Lejeune Justice Act of 2022. This legislation allows military service members, their families, and people who worked at the Camp Lejeune military base to file claims for injuries caused by contaminated drinking water.

Anyone exposed to contaminated water for a 30-day period between August 1, 1953 and December 31, 1987, and who suffered certain injuries due to that exposure can file a claim. Qualifying injuries include several different types of cancers, infertility, and neurobehavioral effects.

April 12, 2023, 4:30 p.m. — Social Media Addiction Litigation Update

Social media use and addiction can have devastating consequences for some users, especially teenagers. Social media use has been linked to mental health disorders, self-harm, and even suicide. Social media addiction can also worsen existing mental health disorders, such as depression and anxiety.

Because teenage brains are still developing, social media use can have significant negative impacts on young people. Plaintiffs’ firms are holding social media companies accountable for these harms.

April 13, 2023, 11:45 a.m. — Tylenol and Autism Litigation Update

In 2022, cases alleging prenatal exposure to acetaminophen is linked to autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in children were consolidated to the Southern District of New York. This panel will provide updates on that ongoing litigation.
